Oracle Threatens Future of Java

A case of business as usual for Oracle Corporation as pulled funding and development efforts drive the community-loved technology into stagnation.

Development on Java has slowed significantly in recent months as Oracle fights a losing battle against Google in court over use of Java in Android’s operating system. Oracle employees are being ordered to halt all work on Java EE and shift focus on to other projects.

Oracle remains silent on the subject however, even as members of the Java Community Process Executive Committee demand a statement. A worrying sign for the Java community, as some question Oracle’s commitment to the 20 year old platform. A group called the Java EE Guardians have staged a petition drive in an effort to pressure Oracle into either rebooting efforts into development, or setting it free.
